17U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Tops Milford Behind Blanco's Big Day At Plate

Fairfield 17U Legion defeated Milford 10-1 on Tuesday evening at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.
Fairfield got on the board in the third inning. With two on, Ethan Wallace doubled to deep left field to bring home Aidan Gouley. Later in the inning, James Blanco came in to score from third when Griffin Dodder hit a fly ball that was dropped in right field.
Fairfield added two more in the fourth. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Blanco grounded into a fielders choice to bring home a run. Wallace then came up a hit a sacrifice fly to right field to chase home another run and increase the lead to 4-0.
Milford got one run back in the fifth. Kian Mcenerney's two-out single to right field brought home Gabriel Santiago, who walked earlier in the inning.
Fairfield broke the game open in the bottom half of the fifth, scoring four times. With the bases loaded and two outs, Blanco doubled to left to bring home Kieran Rosengren and Zach Sullivan, both of whom walked earlier in the inning. Two batters later, with the bases re-loaded, Tim Donahue worked a full count walk to push across another run. The next batter, Griffin Dodder walked also to force home another run.
The scoring was capped when Fairfield put up two more in the bottom of the sixth. The first two batters struck out but then Thomas Hogan reached on an error as a pinch-hitter and Gouley walked. Blanco then doubled to left again to bring in both Hogan and Gouley and put Fairfield up 10-1.
Steven Titus got the win on the mound, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out six. Dodder came out of the bullpen to work 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Donahue worked a scoreless seventh.
Fairfield will be back in action on Wednesday against Milford at Foran HS at 5:30.
