17U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Tops Branford In Opening Game of State Tournament

Fairfield 17U defeated Branford 11-1 in five innings in the first game of the POD H CT State Tournament.  Fairfield advances to the semifinal on Friday against Stamford at 5:30 at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford. Branford will face Stamford on Tuesday at 5:30 at Cubeta Stadium.  Branford took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Fairfield came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.  Meyer Stransky doubled and Will Kane singled to put runners on the corners with nobody out.  Gabe Vahey then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Stransky and tie the game at one.  Fairfield took the lead in the second, scoring four times.  With two on and out out, Jack Veas reached on an error to bring in a run and put Fairfield up 2-1. 19U American Legion Baseball: Greenwich Comes From Behind To Walk-Off Fairfield In Double-Elimination State Playoffs

For the second straight day, Fairfield played an extra innings game in the state playoffs. Unlike, Saturday, the result was not in Fairfield's favor on Sunday.  Fairfield 19U fell to Greenwich 5-4 in nine innings at Julian Curtiss Field in Greenwich as Justin Zych came up with the two-run walk-off single as the Cannons came back from down two in the ninth to win.  Fairfield got on the board right away in the top of the first. Matt Vivona got hit by a pitch leading off the game. Three batters later, Charlie Mulhall drove a ball to deep left field allowing Vivona to come all the way around and score and Mulhall was at second with a stand up double.  Greenwich tied the game in the bottom half on the frame. With runners at the corners and two outs, Nate Jones singled to right field to bring in Zych and tie the game.  Fairfield re-took the lead in the top of the third. 19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Edges Hamden In Ten Innings In Opening Game of State Tournament

Jack Martin waits for a pitch during Saturday's game.  Jack Corcoran's RBI single to right field in the top of the tenth inning lifted Fairfield 19U to a 2-1 win over Hamden in the opening game of the CT American Legion State Tournament on Saturday at Hamden High School.  Corcoran's hit backed up fantastic Fairfield pitching as Kyle Carozza threw five innings on one hit, one run ball and Will Meyers threw five shutout innings of relief, allowing just two hits, to pick up the win.  The game was scoreless through the first four innings Fairfield had a number of chances early on to get on the board, and then through out the game to put up a crooked number but Hamden was able to get out of a number of jams.  Fairfield did get on the board in the top of the fifth.  Tim Donahue walked to lead off the inning. 19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Wins Tight Battle With Greenwich

Tim Donahue waits for a pitch during Fairfield's game on Tuesday.  Fairfield 19U Legion defeated the Greenwich Cannons 5-4 on Tuesday evening at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.  Greenwich got on the board in the top of the second on Tyler Cusimano's RBI ground out to first base.  Fairfield came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Luke Anderson and Tim Donahue each singled to put runners at the corners with none out.  Two batters later, after a strikeout, Aidan Gouley laced a single to left field to bring in Anderson and tie the game at one.  An inning later, Fairfield took the lead. Matt Vivona led off with a double. Charlie Swanson then reached on a bunt single and Vivona moved to third.  Jack Corcoran then came up and hit a ground ball to short that was thrown away attempting to get the force at second. Vivona scored and Swanson and Corcoran were on base.  Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Anderson was hit by a pitch to force in a run.  Donahue then hit

17U American Legion Baseball: Westport Tops Fairfield To Take Weekend Series

After Fairfield 17U and Westport split Saturday's doubleheader in Westport, Sunday's game as Kiwanis Field in Fairfield was the rubber match.  The game went the way of the team further south on I-95 as Westport won by a final score of 14-6.  Fairfield got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Meyer Stransky singled to center field with one out and then Gabe Vahey doubled to deep center to bring home Stransky.  Westport tied the game and took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. They then broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth.  Fairfield would not go quietly, however. They had traffic throughout the game and in the bottom of the fifth, put up three runs.  With the bases loaded and one out, Doonan singled to left to bring in Thomas Hogan and everyone else moved up one base.  Jon Barzottini then reached on an error and Will Burnham singled to center to bring in two more runs.  Westport got one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. 

19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Splits Sunday Doubleheader With Westport

Fairfield 19U Legion split a doubleheader with Westport on Sunday at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.  Westport took game one, 7-0. Fairfield came back to take game two, 3-1. The big hit for Fairfield was Tim Donahue's go-ahead single in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie.  In game one, Will Meyers threw six innings allowing three earned runs, but the offense couldn't put anything together. Offensively, Fairfield had just five hits, three of those coming in the sixth inning.  Game two was a pitcher's dual. Westport got on the board in the second inning as they benefited from two Fairfield errors in the inning.  Kyle Carozza was terrific on the mound for Fairfield. Carozza threw six innings, allowing just two hits and three walks, while striking out nine.  Fairfield tied the game in the fifth. Matt Vivona walked to lead off the inning. 17U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Splits Twin Bill with Westport

Fairfield 17U Legion split a doubleheader with Westport on Saturday at Doubleday Field in Westport.  Westport took game one 5-3, while Fairfield won the ladder 9-8.  In the first game, Westport put up a four spot in the second and never looked back.  Fairfield got on the board third. Luke Anderson hit a one-out triple to left field. Gabe Vahey then lined back to the mound and the throw to third to attempt to double Anderson off of third was off the mark, allowing him to come home.  Fairfield got two more in the fourth helped out by two Westport errors.  Westport tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth and that would cap the scoring.  James McBennett threw the ball well for Fairfield, allowing just three earned runs in six innings.  Game two was a wild back and forth affair that came down to the game's final pitch.  Down a run, Wesport loaded the bases but Anderson was able to get a flyout to get the save and pick up an important win.  Fairfield got three runs in the top of the
