19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Stays Alive With Late Rally To Top Waterford

Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Waterford 1-0 on Tuesday at Waterford High School in an elimination game of the Regional Qualifying Tournament.

Blake Benway’s RBI single in the seventh was the difference.

Joey Sangiuolo did the job on the mound for Fairfield. He threw a complete-game four-hitter to pick up the victory. He struck out seven and walked none.

Daniel Driscoll was terrific on the mound for Waterford as well, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out 14 over six and two-thirds innings.

To set up Benway’s hit in the seventh, Joey D’Elia reached on an error and advanced to second base on the same error. Two batters later, with D’Elia now at third after a wild pitch, Benway delivered with a hit to center field.

Fairfield advances to play the winner of RCP and NCL, which was suspended today.
