19U American Legion Baseball: Meriden Nips Fairfield in Regional Qualifier Opening Game

Meriden defeated Fairfield 19U Militia 1-0 in the first round of the Regional Qualifying Tournament on Monday evening at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.

The game was scoreless through the first six innings until Meriden put across a run in the top half of the seventh inning.

CJ Montiero threw the ball very well for Fairfield taking a tough luck loss.

Ethan Brazel led off the top of the seventh with a single to left field. Evan Cordero and Peyton Zafra Thiel each followed up with singles of their own to load the bases with nobody out. Edward Haniewski then hit into a fielders choice allowing Brazel to come in and score.

In the bottom half of the inning, Fairfield got the tying run on base as Sean McAdams singled to left with out but the Militia could not get the run across.

Fairfield will either travel to Waterford on Tuesday at 6:30pm in an elimination game.
