17U American Legion Baseball: Stamford Comes From Behind to Top Fairfield

Stamford Junior Legion Post #3 came from behind to defeat Fairfield 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield. 

After Kieran Rosengren worked a scoreless top half of the first inning, Fairfield got on the board in the bottom half. Liam Grady singled and Aidan Gouley walked. They stole third and second respectively before James Blanco singled home Grady. Ethan Wallace followed up with a single of his own to bring home Gouley and put Fairfield up 2-1. 

Fairfield added another run in the second. Rosengren walked and then moved to second and third on wild pitches. He can in to score to batters later when Gouley hit a fly ball down the left-field line that was dropped by the Stamford left-fielder as he ranged toward the foul line. 

Stamford picked up a run in the third. Justin Orecchio walked with one out. Two batters later, with runners at the corners, Angelo Fry hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Orecchio and cut the Fairfield lead to 3-1. 

Stamford chipped closer in the fifth. They loaded the bases with one out before MJ Vera hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Nico Seitardis who had singled to lead off the inning. 

An inning later, Stamford would tie the game and take the lead. Declan Nestor led off the inning with a single and Seitardis walked two batters later. Fry then stepped up and and singled to center to plate Nestor and put runners at the corners. The next batter, Jason Rosado, laid down a safety-squeeze bunt down the first base line to score Seitardis and Rosado ended up with a base hit as nobody covered first.

Stamford tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh With two on and two-out, Fry singled to right to plate Nestor and increase the Stamford lead to 5-3. 

Fairfield would get the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the seventh but couldn't push anything across. 

Fairfield falls to 0-2 on the regular season. They will be back in action on Thursday against Stamford at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford.
