The Fairfield 17U baseball team defeated the Danbury Westerners 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.
All the offense occurred in the bottom of the first. After Fairfield started Zach Sullivan retired the Westerners in order in the top half of the frame, Danbury could not do the same in the bottom half. It was walks, hit batters and errors that really did Danbury in as Fairfield scored four runs on only one hit.
Liam Grady walked to lead off the inning and Aidan Gouley was hit by a pitch. Following a strikeout, Ethan Wallace reached on fielders choice to third where the third baseman missed the tag of Grady coming by to load the bases.
Steven Titus then hit a ground ball to short that scored Grady to put Fairfield on top 1-0. Tim Pavlik stepped up to the plate next and lined a single to right field to bring home Gouley and Wallace. Later in the inning after moving around the bases, Pavlik would come in to score on a wild pitch.
Neither team would score the rest of the game as Zach Sullivan threw a complete game three-hitter to pick up the win for Fairfield. He also didn't walk a batter.
