17U American Legion Baseball: Milford Slides By Fairfield In High-Scoring Game

Milford defeated Fairfield 17U 12-9 on Thursday evening at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.

The game was a back and forth affair as Milford took an early lead, Fairfield had a big inning to take the their own lead, before Milford came back to take the lead again for good.

Milford put up three runs in the first inning. The big hit was a two-run single by Aidan Ryan.

Fairfield came right back in the bottom half of the first. Tim Pavlik walked and stole second and Aidan Gouley singled to center to bring him in.

Milford added two more in the third. With runners at second and third and two-out, Brandon Macdonald singled to center to bring in both runs and increase the lead to 5-1.

Fairfield got one back in the bottom of the third. Pavlik walked again and then stole second. Three batters later, he came in to score when Ethan Wallace reached on an error.

Milford came right back with two in the top of the fourth. They did not get a hit in the inning but were the beneficiary of two walks, two balks and they pulled off a double steal.

Fairfield's big inning came in the bottom of the fourth, when they scored seven times. Liam Rosengren and Steven Titus each walked with out out. Zach Sullivan then laid down a perfect bunt trying to sacrifice, but did even better, beating it out for a base hit. The next batter, Pavlik, lined a two-run single to left. Gouley then reached on an error.

With James Blanco at the plate, Sullivan came in to score on a wild pitch. Blanco and Wallace then had back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game at seven. Two batters later as Fairfield batted around, Griffin Dodder singled to center to bring in two more and give Fairfield a 9-7 lead.

This would be the last time Fairfield would score in the game, as they would get no hits and just two baserunners, both in the seventh inning, the rest of the way.
