19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Shutouts Milford Behind Bats and Strong Pitching From Martin
Jack Martin threw a complete game shutout and the bats backed him as Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Milford 14-0 in five innings on Thursday evening at Foran High School in Milford.
Fairfield got their offense going right away as they got the first two men on. Jack Corcoran hit a sacrifice fly to center field to pate Matt Sawyer who singled to lead off the game. The next batter, Sam Swanson singled to bring in Sean McAdams who reached on an error. Two batters later, Charlie Mulhall's RBI double brought home a third run.
After being held off the board in the second, the Militia got their offense going again in the third. With a runner at second and two outs, Blake Benway doubled to bring home Corcoran. Later in the inning, with runners a second and third, Nick Hios singled to bring in both runners and put Fairfield on top 6-0. The next batter, Brady Pomer singled as well to bring in Mulhall.
Fairfield added two more in the fourth. Corcoran singled with one out. Two batters later, Benway reached on an error allowing Corcoran to score. The next batter, Mulhall, doubled to bring in Benway and increase the Militia lead to 9-0.
Fairfield capped their scoring in the fifth as they added five more runs. Corcoran had a two-run double and later in the Benway and Hios each had RBI singles.
Fairfield will be back in action on Saturday against Stamford at Cubeta Stadium in a doubleheader with games at 9am and 11:30am.
