19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Picks Up Big Win Over Trumbull

Jack Martin closed out Fairfield's win over Trumbull on Monday

Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Trumbull 2-0 on Monday evening at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.

The win cinches Fairfield the East Division of Zone 4 and qualified them for the state tournament.

The Militia got great pitching from Edmund Hogan and Jack Martin and some timely hitting to get the victory.

Hogan went 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits and walking four. Martin came on with two in scoring position in the sixth as Hogan reached the maximum pitch count and Martin was able to get a ground out to Ryan Cowles at second base to get out of the jam.

Fairfield got both of their runs early, scoring one in the first inning and the other run in the third inning.

In the first, Matt Sawyer singled to lead off and then stole second base. Two batters later, Jack Corcoran doubled to center field to bring in Sawyer and give the Militia a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Sawyer walked with out and Sean McAdams singled to put two on. Two batters later, Sam Swanson blooped a single in front of the Trumbull center fielder and Sawyer came around to score again.

That would be all the scoring for the game as Hogan and Martin did the job for Fairfield. Trumbull pitchers Rob Goldstein and Dylan Moran threw the ball well also allowing just the two runs on six hits.

Fairfield will be back in action on Tuesday at 5:30 at Kiwanis against Bethel, before traveling to Bethel on Wednesday night for an 8pm start. The regular season concludes on Thursday in the conclusion of a suspended game with Staples before the state playoffs begin on Monday, July 26.
