19U American Legion Baseball: Hogan Perfect As Fairfield Topples Milford

Phil Hogan threw a perfect game as Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Milford 10-0 on Tuesday evening at Foran High School in Milford. Making the no-hitter even more impressive, Hogan struck out 15 of the 21 batters he faced. 

Fairfield got on the board in the second inning on Liam Grady's two-run single.  

In the third, they added three more on three hits. They were the beneficiary of multiple walks and wild pitches in the inning. 

Fairfield tacked on one in the forth as Jack Corcoran walked, stole second and third and then came home on a balk. 

In the fifth, Nick Hios walked with one out and then stole second. He came around to score two batters later on an error. 

Fairfield added three more runs in the sixth, as Corcoran, Sam Swanson and Charlie Mulhall all had hits in the inning. 

Fairfield improves to 12-3. They will be back in action on Wednesday vs Milford at 5:30 at Kiwanis Field. 

The Militia put up 10 runs, but Hogan's perfect game was the story of the day.

Fairfield 19U Legion split a doubleheader with Westport on Sunday at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.  Westport took game one, 7-0. Fairfield came back to take game two, 3-1. The big hit for Fairfield was Tim Donahue's go-ahead single in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie.  In game one, Will Meyers threw six innings allowing three earned runs, but the offense couldn't put anything together. Offensively, Fairfield had just five hits, three of those coming in the sixth inning.  Game two was a pitcher's dual. Westport got on the board in the second inning as they benefited from two Fairfield errors in the inning.  Kyle Carozza was terrific on the mound for Fairfield. 19U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Tops Greenwich To Advance To Regional Qualifying Championship Game

Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Greenwich 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Muzzy Field in Bristol. The win advances the Militia to the Regional Qualifying Tournament Championship Game. They will face NCL later Saturday afternoon at 4pm.  Greenwich got on the board in the top of the first. With runners at the corners and one out, Hunter Gruenstrass grounded back to pitcher Joey Sangiuolo to score Tyler Cusumano.  In the bottom of the second, Fairfield got on the board and then took the lead. With the bases loaded and two outs, Liam Grady singled to right field to plate Jack Corcoran and Sam Swanson. The next batter, Matt Sawyer, reached on an error which allowed Nick Hios to come in and score and put the Militia up 3-1.  Fairfield tacked on a run in the third. 19U American Legion Baseball: Bats and Pitching In Game One, Pitching In Game Two Lead Fairfield To Saturday Sweep of Stratford

Charlie Mulhall leads off second after doubling home the go-ahead run.  Fairfield 19U American Legion baseball took both games of a doubleheader with Stratford on Saturday at Penders Field in Stratford.  Fairfield took game one 10-0 and game two, 2-1.  In game one, the bats got going early and often and Edmund Hogan was terrific on the mound. Game two took great pitching from Elliot Hyde and timely hitting late to get the win.  To start off, Fairfield got three runs in the first inning of game one. Luke Anderson's sacrifice fly and an error brought in two runs and the third scored on a wild pitch.  Fairfield got four more in the fourth. With two on and no out, Griffin Dodder singled to left to plate Ethan Wallace. The next batter, Liam Grady, hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another. Two more runs came in on aggressive base-running by Fairfield.  Griffin Dodder connected on a line-drive inside the park two run home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-0....
