Fairfield 19U Militia defeated Bethel 8-0 on Tuesday night at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.

The Militia got big hits across the board and Jack Martin threw a complete-game two-hit shutout.

Martin was extremely efficient on the mound. He allowed just two hits, both singles. One came in the second inning and the other in the seventh. He walked just two and did not strike out a batter, throwing just 64 pitches.

Fairfield put up three runs in the first and then a single run in innings 2-6.

In the bottom of the first, Matt Sawyer walked and Ryan Cowles singled before Joey D'Elia doubled to center field to bring both runners home. Later in the inning, with D'Elia at second and two outs, Charlie Mulhall doubled to left to plate a third run.

In the second inning, Liam Grady walked with out out and then Sawyer doubled him home to increase the lead to 4-0.

Blake Benway's sacrifice fly to score Sam Swanson gave Fairfield a 5-0 lead in the third.

In the fourth, Sawyer singled and Cowles walked and then D'Elia doubled again. This time just Sawyer came in to score.

The seventh run came in the fifth when Grady reached on an error by the Bethel third baseman with two outs, allowing Pomer, who had walked, to come in to score.

The scoring was capped in the sixth. Reese Palumbo walked as a pinch-hitter with out out. The next batter, Jack Corcoran, doubled to left and Palumbo was able to race around the bases to score from first.

Fairfield will be back in action on Wednesday at Bethel with an 8pm start.
