17U American Legion Baseball: Fairfield Falls To Stamford

Fairfield 17U fell to Stamford 14-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Kiwanis Field in Fairfield.

The game was close in the early going before Stamford broke it open late.

Stamford got on the board in the top of the first. After the first two men were retired against Fairfield starter Will Kane, a walk and a hit put two on. Kane picked off the runner at second but an error in the rundown allowed the Stamford run to score.

At the plate, Kane reached on a pop-up single that fell between the second baseman and the pitcher Fairfield first hit in the second inning. That would be Fairfield's only hit until the seventh.

Stamford added another run in the third. Sam Cooper led off with a single to right field. Three batters later, with Cooper now at third, Angelo Fry hit a ground ball that got past the Fairfield shortstop to plate Cooper and extend the lead to 2-0.

Stamford broke the game open in the fifth, scoring four times. A wild pitch brought home one run. Joseph Pasquerelli then singled to center to bring home two more.

Jason Rosado's ground out brought home the final run of the inning.

On the mound for Stamford, Pasquerelli picked up the win, throwing five inning of one hit baseball. He struck out six and walked just one.

Stamford tacked on two more in the sixth. Cooper hit an RBI triple to center field. Two batters later, Nicholas Seitaridis hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Cooper and give Stamford an 8-0 lead.

In the seventh, Stamford kept the offense going. With the bases loaded and nobody out, James Mascolo doubled to center to bring in two more runs. Two batters later, Zachary Voros singled to bring in another run. The scoring was capped when the next batter, Rosado, was hit by a pitch to force in another run.

Fairfield 17U will be back in action on Wednesday against Stamford at 5:30 at Westhill High School.
